The Sabi Sands and the Greater Kruger National Park
Renowned for big 5 game viewing, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve lies adjacent to the South-West corner of the Kruger National Park, with which it shares a 50km boundary.
There are no fences between the 2 reserves, allowing game to move freely between the areas, and as a result, the reserve offers some of the most exceptional wildlife viewing in the world!
2 rivers cross the Sabi Sand: the Sabi River on its boundary in the South and the Sand River that flows from the North-West to South East. This has resulted in an abundance of leopard, lion, rhino, Elephant, buffalo, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, hyena and a wide variety of antelope and other species…
Land Cruiser Electric Game Viewers
The best time of day to explore the bush is early morning and late afternoon. Our twice-daily game drives are taken in our prototype Land Cruiser Electric safari vehicles, a game-changing innovation pioneered by Japie van Niekerk, owner of Cheetah Plains. This bold advance toward zero-emission game drives is what drives our sustainability safari experience at Cheetah Plains.
An onboard bird book, binoculars and a professional level Nikon D850 camera fitted with a 200-500mm telephoto lens plus memory card are provided for guests’ enjoyment.
The almost silent, smooth gait of our zero-emission Land Cruiser Electric vehicles deliver the highest quality wildlife sightings. Their unobtrusive nature facilitates the most silent approach by vehicle, resulting in an unparallelled safari experience.
Each Land Cruiser Electric vehicle that ranges our vast, prolific traverse has a maximum of 8 comfortable bucket seats, individually set at the optimal recline level of 11 degrees.
Cheetah Plains sets the standard in South Africa for the safest zero-emission, sustainable 4×4 luxury safari experience.
High Concentration of big cats!
If you have ever been to the Sabi Sands or you have watched Safarilive on Youtube, you would know that there is a high concentration of predators throughout the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. With the lions & leopards dominating we get to know the individual characters present in the different territories. The different lion prides – Stix & Torchwood with the Nkuhumas and Birmingham Boys amongst them. We actively seek out all the well known cats and find some others along the way…
Exclusive wildlife & Photographic opportunities
Leopards are usually the most sought after of all the predators especially for photography and wildlife lovers alike. The Sabi Sands is the place to be when it comes to leopard sightings and with the ability to go off-road in our game viewers and follow them from a distance, there really is no comparing the spectacle each and every time we go out.
Every morning, afternoon and night drive is being witness to another leaf out of the lives of these magnificent creatures…
Wildearth & Safarilive
Ralph Kirsten – your Safari director was also a presenter for Safarilive & Nat Geo Wild based in the Sabi Sands and he takes you to their Djuma base camp for a tour of the premises and to meet the current presenters onsite.
